If you and your family have enjoyed movies like The Lion King, Beauty & The Beast and The Little Mermaid, you are bound to like this Saturday’s concert by the California Philharmonic (Cal Phil) at the Santa Anita Race Track. Aside from music from those Disney favorites, the orchestra will play classical masterpieces such as Dukas’ Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue.
Joining Cal Phil will be the acclaimed 100-plus member Cal Phil Chorale, led by Chorus Maestra Marya Basaraba. “Cal Phil Chorale Maestra Marya Basaraba is not only a brilliant Chorus Master but a spectacular soloist,” says Maestro Vener. “She and the Chorale are tremendous assets to the California Philharmonic and to creating many memorable moments in our concerts.”
The music will be performed on Saturday, July 26, at the Santa Anita Race Track, and it will be reprised at the Walt Disney Concert Hall the following weekend, on Sunday, August 3. The first allows you the opportunity to listen to great music in an outdoor setting, with a great view of the San Gabriel Mountains, lawn tickets that start at $20, and the opportunity to bring in your own food and wine. The second lets you enjoy the music in a perfectly quiet setting in one of the most admired music venues in our City.
The concert at the Track starts at 7 p.m. with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. (food and drink are also available for purchase onsite). At the Disney Hall concert starts at 2 p.m. with a discussion (included with ticket) by Maestro Vener starting at 1 p.m. where he educates you about what you will be hearing next.
