The National First Ladies' Library in Canton, Ohio is offering visitors a chance to see a bit of history come to life while at the same time enjoy an elegant High Tea when the Library presents the Ida Saxton McKinley Birthday Tea on Saturday, June 7. For Cleveland history buffs and tea lovers, it is approximately a one hour drive.

A Bit About Ida Saxton McKinley Married to William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, Ida served as First Lady from 1897 -1901 when her husband died from an assassin's bullet. A native of Canton, Ohio. Ida had a talent for financial matters and at one time served as manager of her father's bank. Ida and William were married in 1871 and had two daughters, both of whom died at a young age.

Ida Saxton McKinley Birthday Tea Guests to the Tea will be able to meet and interact with "Ida Saxton McKinley," her mother "Catherine Saxton" and her sister "Mary Saxton Barber" who will share stories of their personal lives making for an interesting afternoon that will bring history to life. A High Tea will be served during the presentation.

The Birthday Tea begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7. Reservations are required. Cost is $35 per person and $31 for Library members. To make reservations call 330-452-0876, Ext. 307.
