This last day of February is a great day to celebrate something delicious. Nothing compares to the exquisite taste and velvety texture of a souffle warm from the oven.
What is a souffle?
A souffle is a baked dish made basically of milk and eggs. The beaten egg whites give it an airy lightness.
The French word "souffle" literally means “puffed-up" or "blown up." That's exactly what happens when custard and egg whites are baked together.
Souffles can be any type of dish, from morning egg breakfasts, to desserts.
Many cooks believe that a souffle has to be handled very carefully and not wrestled out of the oven only to fall flat. It is the puffiness that really makes a souffle.
What is a chocolate souffle?
A chocolate souffle is quick and easy to make. The flavorful base is usually made with whatever you want to provide the "lift." Foods commonly used for the base in a soufflle include cheese, jam, fruits, berries, chocolate, banana and lemon.
Even though you might like other souffles, remember to honor the chocolate souffle on February 28.
