Cookies can be as much fun to prepare and to eat. The recipe below is one that young children can help with and older children can make and bake on their own. It is a simple and straightforward recipe. Within 30 minutes you will be biting into the chewy, chocolaty goodness of Chocolate Puffs.
Chocolate Puffs
A Macaroon-type Cooky
Yield: 3 dozen cookies
Ingredients:
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 6 oz. pkg. semi-sweet chocolate pieces (melted)
- 1-1/3 c. coconut
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
Directions:
Beat egg whites until stiff. Add sugar gradually and continue beating until blended. Add salt and vanilla. Fold in melted chocolate, coconut and nuts. Drop by teaspoonful onto a baking sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. [adapted from Our Best Cooky Recipes by Martha Logan – Swift & Company]
Tip: For chewy cookies, store in a tightly covered container. Slices of apple, orange or bread placed in the container will help mellow and moisten the cookies. Change the fruit and bread often. That is if the cookies last that long.
