For reasons that are beyondcomprehension, England released two dozen high risk Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. They claim that they released them because they believe that the benevolent gesture will reduce animosity towards them from our collective enemy, Al Qaeda. How ridiculous is this? Have we learned nothing over the years from the passive approach during the Clinton years? At that time, our inaction simply led to more profound attacks. The American embassy bombing in Africa, the first bombing of the World Trade Center, the bombing of the USS Cole naval ship was the effect of a passive approach to Al Qaeda with the hope that they would just go away. Unfortunately, turning the other cheek with this enemy just gets you slapped twice.
Islamic fundamentalists hate everyone who doesn't abide by Sharia law, (ie. all non-Muslims). Their culture allows stoning of women for what we would consider minor conflagrations, honor killings of women and girls, and they think nothing about chopping off arms , legs and beheading. Their young children are trained at Madrassas how to blow themselves up with a suicide bomb. They even have cartoons glorifying this. In Iraq, they once strapped bombs to two mentally challenged women and remotely blew them up in a marketplace. What a low point of humanity and decency that was. Evil is alive and well in our enemy. What more evidence do we need that we must face this enemy with resolve and not temerity. There will be no compromise. The extremists have and always will hate us. We will not garner any good will by releasing them from our prisons, in fact the reverse is likely since these acts show signs of weakness. The enemy is further emboldened by these acts and garner more support by believing that they can win. Our media fights against our mission and is the enemy's best friend. They use media propaganda to recruit new terrorists. More often than not, we focus on prisoner's rights held at Guantanamo Bay. Pictures are disseminated all over the newspapers depicting America's improper treatment of our captive prisoners.
But where are the Americans and Allied forces who are captured by Al Qaeda? There are none. Al Qaeda takes no prisoners so there are none to release. All are killed or videotaped for propaganda and terror purposes. It is time to take off the gloves and unite with our allies to clean house. The least helpful thing is to show that we are weak and try to appease them. The enemy is not afraid to die and believe that they will go to a paradise with 72 virgins. It seems that we are suffering from the Stockholm syndrome, and are being overly benevolent to the enemy. This is not how we will win this war. Only the showing of strength and resolve will accomplish this. The war against terror continues. We must not lose focus because we are weary of war. The media needs to be responsible and not aid the enemy by disseminating propaganda useful for them to recruit new members. And we should never release high risk terrorists as they have been shown to attack us a second time.
