If there is a top talent in Germany, it has to be assumed, these days, that Bayern Munich is in top position to make the acquisition.
Borussia Dortmund has lost several of their top players to the German giants, most recently Mario Gotze. Robert Lewandowski, Dortmund’s ace striker, will be on his way this summer on a free transfer, too.
But when it comes to Julian Draxler at Schalke, Bayern might not be reaching into the cookie jar, The Guardian reports. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has tried to put a stop to the rumors.
“We are not buying any player from Dortmund or Schalke just to hurt these clubs,” he said. “We are just buying players who can give FC Bayern more quality straight away. I can rule out that we will sign Julian Draxler in the summer.”
This news will put England on high alert.
Arsene Wenger and Arsenal were heavily linked with the German playmaker during the January transfer window, but those negotiations were never finished.
Draxler can play all across the midfield because of his versatility, but to the left or directly behind the striker is his natural position. He favors an inside forward role that allows him to cut inside and run at defenders.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all likely to take notice of this news, too. It wouldn’t be surprising if Barcelona and Real Madrid follow suit given that Draxler has been linked to Spain in the past.
