Reality-TV-star-turned-primetime actress NeNe Leakes is ready to once more wed the man she divorced last year, Gregg Leakes, and she formally shared the news Jan. 3 on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon."
NeNe and Gregg first met in 1996, married in '97 and had a son, Brentt, now 13. The family, along with NeNe's eldest son, Bryson, were set to live happily ever after in Atlanta until the couple feuded after Gregg, 58, publicly said he invested $300,000 in his 44-year-old wife's career and "fame got to her head."
NeNe filed for divorce in 2011 and the was officially single again in fall 2012. In looking back on the split, NeNe, in a December 2012 report, told one media outlet, "As you guys know, I'm on a reality show, and a lot of the time what happens on these reality shows is that these women are married to successful men, and you're in their shadow, and once you step out of your own shadow and away from their's, it can start a little conflict.
"I am not sure if Gregg was ready to see me as his wife out in the forefront, making my own money, doing my own thing. That was very difficult for him and I felt like Gregg wasn't doing all there things that he should be doing as a husband, and I decided to divorce Gregg."
After time apart, however, it's clear the flame of love still burns between the couple, and on New Year's Eve, Gregg opted to propose to NeNe again -- and she hinted that the pair were on the path to reuniting for keeps via a series of messages via her Twitter that depicted a romantic Jan. 31-Jan. 1 spent with her former hubby.
Talk-show host Jimmy Fallon seized NeNe's Jan. 3 visit on his show to ask her about the Twitter "teasers" that included a pic of a hallway lined with rose petals and a silver heart laid out on a bed. Initially, NeNe was somewhat coy in responding to Fallon's questions related to whether the couple was engaged, but her excitement was too much to contain in the end.
Just after midnight on New Year's Eve, "I was asked this beautiful question: 'Will you marry me (pregnant pause) again?'" NeNe, who also stars in NBC-TV's "The New Normal," revealed to Fallon and his viewers.H
Her answer? Why, it was "Yesssss!" -- of course, and again. ... No wedding plans have been shared as of yet, but expect NeNe and Gregg to do it their way, whatever and whenever that may be.
