Endurance mountain bike racing returns to SoCal January 19th

Orange County mountain bikers who have resolved to try a mountain bike race in 2013 would be well served by the SoCalEndurance race series. The series kicks off January 19th at Vail Lake Resort in Temecula.

Although the races are billed a 6 or 12 hour events, the truth is you can race as little or as much as you wish. With a multi-lap format, you can take a break after your first lap, eat, relax and decide if you're up for another go. Not many races offer more rest than riding!

Chances are you'll be game for more, thanks to the encouragement of your fellow racers and the sweet swooping singletrack that the series is known for. With about 9 miles of trail per lap, it's hardly what you'd call crowded on the trail. And endurance racers are a bit mellower overall - even the most hardcore riders must pace themselves mentally and physically to endure 12 hours on a bike!

There's plenty of camping available at Vail Lake, and Temecula hotels are a short drive, so many families and racers settle in overnight or for the whole weekend. And when the dust settles and the cars are packed up, it's a pretty painless drive back to the OC.

So register, grab your bike, and a cheering squad and resolve to enjoy one of the best mountain bike events around!
