Republicans aren’t letting go of a failed Democratic effort to strong-arm the Northern Virginia Technology Council into reversing an endorsement of GOP gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli, Watchdog.org reported Friday.
NVTC PAC members characterized McAuliffe as “uninformed and superficial” during their interview. As the Post put it: “Cuccinelli gave a 39-minute address heavy on wonky details. McAuliffe gave his standard 16-minute stump speech.”
McAuliffe doubled down on his loss Wednesday when he asserted that he “knew nothing” about the campaign to reverse the NVTC endorsement.
“This is not the first time Terry McAuliffe has pleaded ignorance when he’s been the subject of serious scrutiny,” countered Republican strategist Chris LaCivita.
Citing several Democratic lawmakers who reportedly intervened on McAuliffe’s behalf, state Republican Chairman Pat Mullins filed Freedom of Information Act requests with the General Assembly, seeking “records of any phone or email contact between Sen. Janet Howell, Sen. Barbara Favola, Sen. Dick Saslaw or any other member of the Senate Democratic Caucus and Terry’s campaign for the last two weeks.”
