School has begun and the summer of 2014 is coming to a close. St. Louis has several activities to help celebrate the end of another summer and the start of a new school year.

The Butterfly House

Visit the Paper Kite Butterfly Festival at the Butterfly House, located at Faust Park in Chesterfield. It happens August 23 and 30th and September 6 and 13th from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

“Experience the wonder of flight as we celebrate our first Paper Kite Butterfly Festival. Fun educational activities will demonstrate what makes butterflies -- and kites -- soar. See paper kite butterflies in our tropical conservatory, watch kite building demonstrations, build origami butterflies, and decorate your very own kite to take home.”

This event is included with the price of admission to the Butterfly House, which is $6 general admission and $4 for children 3-12 years old (2 years old and younger are free).

Eckert’s Farm

Stock up on Apples at Eckert’s Farm on Saturday, August 30 from 9 a.m.-5p.m. The event is at the Grafton Farm located at 20995 Eckert Orchard Road Grafton, IL 62037.

“Ride the wagon out to the orchard to pick-your-own apples. For more information call Eckert’s Harvest hotline at (618)233-0513 x 6 or (800)745-0513 x 6.”

Apple picking is also available at the Millstadt and Belleville locations.

Prairie Farms Summer Zoo Weekends

Continuing through Labor Day, the Saint Louis Zoo offers your family more flexibility with expanded weekend hours. Visit Friday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The St. Louis Zoo is also offering the Jungle Boogie Friday Night Concert Series every Friday through August 29 from 5-8 p.m.

"Splish splash" with the stingrays, "cha-cha" with the cheetahs, "salsa" with the sea lions or "two-step" with the tigers at Jungle Boogie, the Zoo's Friday night concert series for the whole family.”
