End of summer

END OF SUMMER

Twas the night before school starts,
And all through the garage,
Not a transmission was stirring,
Not even an engine.
The buses were lined up,
all yellow and shiny,
The lights were already
To light up for the kids.
The horn was quiet,
The mufflers were muffled,
The springs were not squeaking,
The brakes were prepared,
The seats were still empty
And there was not any dirt.
There was not any noise,
There’s no hustle and bustle
There were no little children
Waiting for school.
The drivers were sleeping
And dreaming of routes,
wondering where bus stops
and children would be.
When all of the sudden
There arose a jingle
The keys were rattling
And it sent such a tingle.
Flashlights were approaching,
the doors are unlocked.
The key is inserted
The dash lights light up
There is action for sure.
With flashlights lighting paths to pre-trip,
lights twinkle like Christmas.
Drivers get cold
But drivers are sturdy,
Drivers get dirty
Because drivers are safe.
All lights are checked,
The brakes are included,
The seats and the equipment are made not to move.
The tires how black
but inflated with care,
the tread is the right depth
for children’s delight.
The brakes,
How they work,
The lights are not out
but bright and delightful,
the steering is right and left if you please.
The blinkers how bright
The flashers are brighter,
The driver continues his quest for a safe ride.
Mechanics are ready in case of a mess,
But drivers must get to their bus stops
And be ready
for the children are coming to school
This is cool!

It is said that to be a person that drives a school bus needs patience, compassion and nerves of steel. To teach school bus driving, as Sharon does, takes these qualities a step further.
