Joel Osteen’s church, Lakewood Church, in Houston, Texas is the largest Church in the United States. According to Wikipedia more than 40,000 people attend service each weekend. What is it that attracts so many people? What is it that keeps them coming back? It is simple, it is encouragement. Osteen’s messages have a central theme of constant encouragement throughout them. He is constantly telling people that God wants them to succeed in life, and that they should not give up on their dreams. This constant message of encouragement is what makes Osteen’s message so attractive.

There is never condemnation or judgment. He never tells people to just accept the way things are, and for them to try and just be happy. No, he empowers his audience by telling them that through Jesus Christ there are no limitations on their lives.

People have lived their entire lives with at least some area where they have just given up and accepted the situation. They believed that things would never change, and that it would never get better. It would be a burden that they would just have to learn to live with.

Osteen encourages people that God wants a better life for them. He constantly preaches that God wants them to live abundantly in every area of their life. He boldly declares that through Jesus Christ they can live a life that they have only dared to dream about. It is this constant encouragement that will always attract people to his message.
