Empower yourself in 2010 with a fun workout class that's a little "risqué"

The past couple of years has seen the revival of this vintage art form of burlesque here in Los Angeles, at least in the Latino community. Artists and dancers are popping up all over the city, from La Cholita who is known as "The Latina Queen of Burlesque," to art photographer Cecilia García who captures the beauty and sensuality of tasteful burlesque and erotic modeling with a vintage flair. This coming January, at CASA 0101 Theatre located in the heart of the Boyle Heights Artist District, theatre artist, director and choreographer Corky Dominguez will lead a burlesque workout class "¡Qué Risque!" Here is your chance to explore this art form with a class that promises to not only be a great workout, you know for that new year's resolution to shed a few holiday pounds, but an empowering class aimed at celebrating our bodies.

Burlesque is a theatrical entertainment that features broadly comic parody, satirical imitation, specialty acts, and sexy glamour striptease acts, which offers a glimpse but doesn't bare it all. In this class you will start off with light exercise warm-ups then learn routines, non-verbal scenes, working with props and costumes, and the art of the tease, all while proclaiming your inner and outer beauty, strength, passion, sensuality, and the spirit of Gypsy Rose Lee.

The classes will be held on Mondays beginning January 4, 2010 at 8 p.m., at CASA 0101 Theatre located at 2009 E. 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90033. There will be a total of six (6) sessions. The cost is only $7 per single 90-minute class, or $42 for the entire series. It is open to all levels as well as both adult women and men, but due to the nature of the class, participants must be over 21 years old. Students from the class will also have the opportunity to present and perform at a special Valentine's Day late night burlesque review on Saturday, February 13, 2010.
