Building strong, confidant, and empowered young girls takes everyone doing their part and sometimes more. IN THE LOOP Program of Success and Blu Topaz, Inc. Educational Consulting are taking the lead and doing their part with the 2nd annual GIRLS Empowerment Seminar: Empower YOU on July 19, 2014, at Richard Wright Public Charter School in Southeast DC. The GIRLS Empowerment Seminar Series was developed under the belief that it takes a village to raise a child. They are making a commitment to provide ongoing programs that empower young girls to be strong women.
Returning presenter, Tuwanda Jackson, is excited facilitating the “Literally Speaking” session. “I decided to participate again this year because I enjoy working with the youth as well as facilitating them in engaging topics revived around empowerment and motivation.” Jackson’s workshop will focus on communication (verbal and non-verbal) tools that can help them develop skills that will assist them in life.
GIRLS Empowerment Seminar: Empower YOU is about giving girls tools to build self-awareness, increase self-value, expand their inner and outer beauty and create healthy habits promoting a long and healthy lifestyle. Jackson also said, “Programs like these are extremely important because it exposes youth to life and social skills through the resources provided. The resources include personal/self-awareness, post-secondary support, career development, empowerment workshops, and many more enriching activities.”
The Empower YOU seminar is based on four points: YOU are enough, YOU are powerful, YOU are smart, and YOU are the best YOU. The featured workshops will focus on writing, health and fitness, the power of STEM and media. Workshops are designed to engage, entertain and expose the young girls to something new.
“Last year was exciting, this year we have an amazing program including our returning keynote speaker, singer, songwriter, Deborah Bond,” shares Carletta S. Hurt, Director of the IN THE LOOP Program of Success. “Our goal is to connect with girls in ways that spark a light that will continue to grow after the program ends. The program is going to inspire, motivate and encourage girls in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area.” It is designed to expose young girls between the ages of 12-17 to activities that will assist them in gaining insight about themselves and the world around them.
