San Pedro teens: are you ready to start looking for a job? The second annual Pathways to Employment Youth Workshop on April 6th offers workshops on resume writing, interview skills, even starting your own business.
This free event is co-sponsored by the Northwest San Pedro Neighborhood Council and the San Pedro Rotary Club. “It’s so hard for kids to find summer jobs,” said Laurie Jacobs, event organizer and member-at-large of the Northwest Council. “This is not a job fair. It’s intended to give teens an advantage in their job search.”
The day is broken into two parts: In the morning, teens attend three 50-minute workshops of their choice from a list that includes such subjects as Using Social Media in Your Job Search and Work Ethics and People Skills. Jacobs will be running a workshop on Email Communication and Etiquette Skills. There’s a break for lunch (provided at the event), then the afternoon continues with representatives from a great variety of companies conducting practice interviews and sharing more insight into finding a job. “Many industries will be represented at the interview sessions including The Port of Los Angeles, banking and financial, healthcare, law enforcement and the military,” continued Jacobs.
The workshop takes place at the John M and Muriel Olguin Campus of San Pedro High School in Angel’s Gate Park, 8am – 4pm. For planning purposes teens should pre-register to select their top three workshops.
