Emmy-winning 'Project Runway' presents Season 13 premiere

Right from the start on the premiere of Lifetime’s “Project Runway” Thursday, Heidi and company chose their selected fashion designers for lucky Season 13. After they settled into their new workspaces at Parsons (The New School of Design), it was time to reveal a returning veteran designer from a past season.

It was easily a forgone conclusion it would be Season 11’s Amanda Valentine. She’s the attractive and instantly likeable one whose brother is a member of the pop/rock band, Maroon 5 (lead guitarist James Valentine).

Their first challenge contained a trunk of fabrics, so no trip to Mood (Mood Fabrics) was necessary this week. All the designers were to create one spring look for a collection at Fashion Week. Here’s where the weak and the strong get separated. You also get ideas who are the catty ones, oh those drama queens, and the level-headed sorts are in the workroom for the remainder of the season.

With so much time on their hands, instead of helping out others, Korina and Mitchell made rude comments on the other designs, especially against Sandhya. Poor Angela was having a time of it all and in tears throughout.

Sandhya shared a moment with viewers regarding her traditional Indian marriage. It was arranged while growing up in India. She met her husband for five minutes and they decided to get married. Thankfully Sandhya said her husband is an angel.

On the runway it guest judge Julie Bowen, from the TV sitcom “Modern Family.” who joined Zac Posen, Nina Garcia, and Heidi Klum. For the first challenge there were a lot of impressive designs for a 24-hour deadline. The top three were Sandhya, Amanda, and Char from Detroit.

On the bottom were Jefferson, Mitchell, and Angela. When Angela was told she’s safe, the tears were of gratitude. Sandhya was the clear winner as it became obvious she’s the judge’s favorite. Jefferson and Mitchell were the last two standing. It was Jefferson’s bib-looking top and high-waisted shorts/diapers that made Nina say “WTF.”
