The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has released the Emmy nominations 2009 list and a variety of miniseries and made for television movies were nominated. The nominees for Outstanding Made for Television Movie include Coco Chanel, Lifetime which scored 2 nominations, Grey Gardens, made for HBO that garnered a total of 17 nominations, Into the Storm, another movie made for HBO that was nominated 14 times, Prayers for Bobby, a Lifetime special that has 2 nominations, and Taking Chance, the Kevin Bacon made for HBO movie that has a total of 10 nominations.

Like made for television movies, the Outstanding Miniseries category covers features made for television yet aired over several days. The nominees for Outstanding Miniseries include Generation Kill, an HBO miniseries that was nominated for 11 Emmys, and Little Dorrit, a PBS miniseries that also garnered 11 nominations.

Made for television movies and miniseries would be nothing without the actors and actresses that bring them to life. Here are the nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a miniseries or made for television movie.

Drew Barrymore has been nominated for Grey Gardens. This is her second Emmy nomination, as she was nominated in 2000 for her work on Olive, the Other Reindeer. Jessica Lange, who co-starred with Drew, has also been nominated for her work in Grey Gardens. This is Jessica’s third nomination as she was nominated in 2003 for Normal and in 1996 for A Streetcar Named Desire. Jessica Lange has no previous wins.

Shirley MacLaine has received her sixth Emmy nomination for her work in Coco Chanel. Shirley MacLaine won an Emmy in 1976 for her work in Gypsy in my Soul. Sigourney Weaver marks her 2nd Emmy nomination with her work in Prayers for Bobby. She was previously nominated in 1998 for snow White: A Tale of Terror. Sigourney Weaver has no previous wins. Finishing out the category is Chandra Wilson, she has a total of 5 nominations. Wilson was nominated for her role in Accidental Friendship, which aired on Hallmark. Chandra Wilson has no previous wins.

This year, several Hollywood actors mark their first Emmy nomination debut television movies and miniseries. Kevin Kline, nominated for Cyrano De Bergerac, Brendan Gleeson, nominated for Into the Storm, and Kevin Bacon, nominated for Taking Chance are all first time nominees. Kenneth Branagh has been nominated for his work in Wallander: One Step Behind. Branagh has 4 previous nominations, including 1 win.
Sir Ian McKellen has been nominated for King Lear. McKellen has a total of 3 Emmy nominations, yet no previous wins. Keifer Sutherland, star of Fox’ hit series, 24 is no stranger to the Emmys. With 2 previous wins and 11 total nominations, Keifer has been nominated every year since 2002, except for 2008. However he was nominated twice in 2003, 2005, and 2006.
