Emmanuel Sanders to meet with Chiefs on Friday

Free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is scheduled to be in town Friday to meet with the Kansas City Chiefs according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Sanders, 26, has been with the Pittsburgh Steelers since being drafted in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of SMU. He has appeared in 56 games for the Steelers, starting 19 of them. Last year, he played in all 16 games and started 11, setting career bests with 67 receptions for 740 yards and six touchdowns.

Sanders will have visited KC, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay so far on his free agent tour. Reportedly the New York Jets are showing strong interest but the New England Patriots have been surprisingly quiet so far about Sanders after they signed him to an offer sheet last season. But then again, the Patriots usually operate in stealth mode for most free agents.

Sanders would make an interesting addition to the Chiefs roster if they can sign him. He would immediately take over the slot position that has been vacated since Dexter McCluster took his talents to Nashville and the Titans. His career productivity hasn’t been so great that he will come with an expensive price tag, so KC might be able to sign him to a cap-friendly contract.
