Per Deadline, the twenty-one-year old actress will star as the central protagonist Lena Holoway, and it'll mark her first trip back to the small screen since starring in the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous. Interestingly enough, she's reportedly been offered several other pilot opportunities but declined them all until Delirium came across her table. She was spotted purchasing a copy of the book a few days ago, which some fans guessed meant a connection to the upcoming television adaptation.

Delirium, of course, follows Lena through the days leading up to her age-based surgical procedure to remove the emotional factor love from her life ... when she just so happens to fall in love with an outsider.

Roberts recently starred in the back-to-back indie flicks Celeste & Jesse Forever and The Art of Getting By in addition to appearing in Scream 4.

She is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and niece of Julia Roberts.

Lauren Oliver offered up her authorial perspective on the news via blog, writing "Obviously this is really exciting to me. I've always said that what I wanted most in terms of casting was to have talented actors, and Emma totally fits that bill! I hope you guys are as excited as I am!"

Oliver previously expressed her faith that Fox will turn Delirium into a "great" show.

What do you think of this first bit of Delirium casting news?
