Patti Pietschmann reporting live from Maui, Hawaii--It felt like the 4th of July last night as an unbelievable fireworks display lit up the sky over the Pacific Ocean in Kihei, a resort adjacent to Wailea. We were finishing dinner on our lanai at the Mana Kai condos listening to the noise and music wafting up from Sarento’s on the Beach restaurant which was the scene of an A-list party. Suddenly said display erupted to cheers and whistles. This is just part of the annual week-long Maui Film Festival that has taken the island by Hollywood storm.
The star-studded event is more laid back than Cannes but still attracts industry biggies and offers a line up of honorees, screenings and special events through June 8, 2014 in Wailea. Taking place at the Celestial Cinema located at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course, the Seaside Cinema Music Cafe & Sunset Lounge at the Grand Wailea, the Castle Theater at the state-of-the-art Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului, and the Toes in the Sand Cinema located between the Four Seasons Maui and the Grand Wailea. There’s a full schedule of screenings and special events throughout the Wailea Resort. And award ceremonies honoring Shep Gordon, Joe Manganiello, Lupita Nyong’o, Emma Roberts and Evan Rachel Wood.
Today’s Maui News ran a cover story on Emma Roberts who received the Star Award last night. According to E Online, the glamor queen is also making waves wearing her string bikini on the beach. The piece read, “Roberts modeled Bikini Thief's $68 "Lucy Vincent" string two-piece, which features a seaweed pattern, before covering up in an Elkin parrot tee and denim shorts.”
