Emlyn Hughes: How to teach Quantum Mechanics
Columbia University professor Emlyn Hughes has a tough job: teaching Quantum Mechanics can't be easy. However, does stripping in front of your class and showing them images of ninjas really help? Depends on whom you ask.
A video emerged from Emlyn Hughes' Frontiers of Science (FroSci) class in which Hughes strips from his regular teacher outfit and changes into a ninja outfit. He and an assistant then execute a couple of puppets. Hughes then shows his class a video set to a remix of Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot". The video features images of World War II, 9/11; and, dominating it all, an image of the Misfits' skull logo.
Emlyn Hughes then told the class that the whole point of his weird strip show was to confuse everyone in the room. The chatter audible in the video to the left would suggest that Hughes was totally successful.
The Atlantic Wire described Emlyn Hughes' slide/strip/ninja show as "How not to teach Quantum Mechanics", but I respectfully disagree.
But none of this was as offensive as the fact that he proceeded to display a Big Bang Theory clip in a “Science” class.
