The news of Clarke’s role was announced Friday, Dec. 13.
Clarke tested for the role in November, along with Brie Larson (The Spectacular Now, 21 Jump Street), and Margot Robbie (Pan Am, The Wolf of Wall Street), though she close a deal with the studio on Friday.
The “mother of dragons’ will be fighting cyborgs this time around, playing the iconic role made famous by Linda Hamilton.
The plot has not been revealed, however according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Terminator robot is tasked to protect Sarah Connor from childhood into young adulthood. The film will also have John Connor, Sarah’s son and the future leader of humanity, as well as a young Kyle Reese, John’s father.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to the franchise as the famous Terminator robot.
Clarke will be re-teaming with Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor, who just came off the success of his first feature film debut Thor: The Dark World.
The sci-fi film reboot is co-produced by Paramount, Skydance and Annapurna.
The latest Terminator installment has a release date of July 1, 2015
