Emerging New Jersey artist, Rebecca Thygesen, makes unique clay jewelry

Philadelphia and it's surrounding communities are home to a wide variety of artists, particularly those who specialize in wearable creations!  One such emerging artist is Rebecca Thygesen of BabyClay who fashions fun and funky jewelry and accessories from sculpey clay and other natural materials.

Rebecca started out her professional carreer as a pilot, but several months ago she delved more deeply into her artistic side after deciding that the travleing life style wasn't for her.  Luckily for her devoted fans, there's been no looking back ever since!  After trying a few mediums, she "found her heart in clay", loving it for it's one of a kind nature.  Her first creation was a lovely red and black flower barret surrounded by feathers.  She got an instant positve response from impressed friends and coworkers who also wanted to purchase similar pieces. She has since used the flower and feather design as a mainstay for her blooming business, making it in a wide variety of colors and styles.

When asked about her artistic point of view, she states " Well, out of the billions of people on this planet, there is only ONE of each of us.  I know that’s an obvious statement but when you really ponder it, what a wonderful gift!  No one else has your smile, no one else has your thoughts, no one else has the hands that made every meticulous movement to create that work of art that would otherwise never exist.  To be able to share the one-of-a-kind me with everyone else through my artistic ability is the gift I enjoy giving back generously."  This philosphy is most certainly reflected in Rebecca's work, since each piece is completely unique with no two alike.  They are truly a one of a creation, for a one of a kind you, from a one of a kind lady!

Rebecca is also is working on a new line called BabyVuDo that has an edgier look and feel, using bird skulls, fur, feathers and insect wings.  You can find many wonderful pieces from the BabyClay and BabyVuDo lines on Rebecca's Etsy shop for purchase.  For those who enjoy a first hand shopping experience, you can visit her at some of her summer craft shows.  She'll be at "Not Yo Mamma's Craft Fair"  in Jersey City on June 25th and Frenchtown Bastille Day Festival in Frenchtown on July 16th.  Your summer won't be complete without one of Rebecca's fabulous creations!
