The Employment Security Department announced today it’s unclear whether Congress will vote to extend the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program past December 28. The program has already been extended eleven times over the last five years.
Although Washington State became eligible for another nine weeks of unemployment as announced earlier this month by the Employment Security Department if the program is not extended, approximately 25,000 unemployed people in our state will be affected as they will not receive the additional unemployment benefits under this program.
In the meantime, folks that are unemployed should expect that the program will not be continuing past December 28 and should work with their local WorkSource office if they aren’t already.
WorkSource is a proven resource that offers many free services to those seeking work including job referral and placement, resume and interviewing help, use of office equipment, workshops, and training and community service referrals.
