Emergency response personnel from Aberdeen Proving Ground responded to numerous 911 calls for assistance based on a man in the water at Atkisson Dam early Wednesday.

Once on the scene, APG emergency responders, Harford County and Baltimore County emergency personnel, in a joint operation, rescued a man suspended from a rope on the spillway side of the dam. At the time of the rescue, the man was alert and responding to emergency personnel. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The name and current condition of the individual is not being released at this time.

Although not adjacent to Aberdeen Proving Ground, Atkisson Dam is federal property and marked "No Trespassing." The individual was issued a citation for trespass.

Atkisson Dam was built during World War II to provide a reservoir of water for APG operations and activities. It was never used for that purpose. The reservoir and dam are located on Winters Run in Harford County, Md. Winters Run is a tributary to Otter Point Creek, which flows to the Bush River, a tributary to the Chesapeake Bay.
