In an emergency situation there are several basic items that you should have on hand:

  • Basics: Keep plenty of first aid basics on hand. Things like band aids, gauze, medical tape, rubbing alcohol, etc. Keep a kit of these basics in each vehicle, you emergency bag, and in your house.
  • Medical: It's a very good idea to have a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff on hand, be sure you learn how to use these items. Also have a pair of good sharp scissors on hand.

  • Medication: Have a backup emergency supply of any rx medication, many doctors will write you an extra rx if you explain it's for your emergency kit. Also keep basic pain relievers, vitamins, allergy, and cold medicine stored on hand.

  • First aid and CPR certification: Consider getting certified in both first aid and CPR. This is a skill that can save a life.
