Club Sport Emelec from Ecuador defeated Argentine club Velez Sarsfield 1-0 in the first game of group four of the Copa Libertadores. The tournament is the international club championship of champions from the South American sector, CONMEBOL. The match was played in Ecuador.
ESPN Deportes reported on Tuesday evening that Emelec took the first game of the group. The lone goal was no price, as it was an own goal by Velez forward Facundo Ferreyra. The disastrous goal came four minutes after the break.
According to the stats on ESPN, the game did not have much shooting. Emelec had nine shots compared to Sarsfield’s five shots. Also, Velez received a red card in the 62nd minute of the match. The card went to Fernando Tobio.
The next game will be played in Argentina’s house. However, Velez was the favorite in this match since the Argentine club comes from being sub-champs in the other international club tournament of South America called Copa Suramericana.
