This summer, Sonsi gives a reason to have fun in the sun with their 2014 Swimwear line. Bold colors, graphic prints, flowing dresses and chic kaftans are the staples of the latest collection. Sonsi's Emily Tharp is an advocate for the plus size community, an FFFWeek sponsor, and maintains a blog where she's shared how she has boosted her own confidence in her curves. Tharp explains how every woman can embrace her curves with confidence through Sonsi's unique designs and color palettes this season.

How would you describe the new 2014 Sonsi swimwear line?

The focus for our 2014 line is all about color. We’ve enlisted some of our favorite designers and brands to bring us their best this year, and they did so in a big way! We’ve got cover-ups in radiant reds, bikinis in cool greens & blues, and unique one-piece suits in all-over, bright prints. We want to make the shopping experience as easy as possible for a woman to find what she’s looking for, plus a few pieces she may not have thought to pair with it.

Can you give us some design details that Sonsi utilizes to help women embrace their curves?

Our swim line is pulled from a variety of designers, so luckily we have been able to combine suits and cover-ups with features that appeal to every woman. Some of the highlights include high-waisted bottoms to pair with bikini tops or tankinis, powernet tummy control lining for some of our one-piece suits, removable straps and thicker straps for more support, and sheer fabrics for a touch of sexy.

I love the bold, colorful graphic prints Sonsi has incorporated this season for the swimwear line. What would you tell a woman who normally wears solid colors for swimwear, but wants to try something more graphic?

Every woman can pull off patterns! We have so many options this year, from aztecs to florals to animal prints (my personal favorite!) & more. Pick a pattern that your eye is drawn to naturally for its beauty. That way, when you put it on, your happiness and confidence will shine through!

The kaftans and dresses are absolutely fabulous. Do you think a woman would be able to go straight from the beach out to dinner in one of these little numbers?

Completely! Swimwear options have evolved drastically over the years. It’s not just about throwing a t-shirt & shorts over your suit anymore; it’s about the entire look. I personally dream of living in flowy dresses like these. If I were on an island right now, I’d definitely be floating directly from the beach to dinner in one of our kaftan options.

Sonsi has even included chic pants, tunics, and ponchos in the swimwear line. You have really given women of any size no excuse not to get out in the sun this summer because of body-conscious issues. Having all these options, what has been the feedback so far from women?

While it’s always amazing when we see orders for our bikinis or suits that show some extra skin, the biggest trend we have seen this season is women embracing color. Head-to-toe black, while chic, is not everyone’s go-to anymore. Of course we still find women buying swim basics, but adding color to these pieces is a great way to start stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing your curves.

In keeping with our mission to inspire every plus size woman to embrace her curves, Sonsi worked with a team of curvy fashionistas to develop the world’s first Curvy Quotient (CQ) Test, available at Sonsi.com/boostyourcq. Designed by curvy women for curvy women, our 2-minute test will help a plus size woman determine her Curvy Quotient, a measurement of her confidence and willingness to embrace her curves.

We encourage everyone to get started building their curvy confidence!
