Embrace winter at CanalWay Center's Fight the Frost Festival

A free, family-friendly, educational Metroparks winter outing awaits at CanalWay Center's 4th annual Fight the Frost Festival on Sunday, February 17.

A Bit About the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation Stretching through several Cleveland area communities in the city's industrial heart, the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation follows part of the historic 309 mile Ohio & Erie Canal. The Reservation features 7.2 miles of the Al-Purpose Towpath Trail that runs all the way to New Philadelphia, Observation decks in the Reservation afford the opportunity to visitors to see animals like blue herons, red-tailed hawks, deer, beavers and a wide variety of birds.

CanalWay Center Located on 306 acres, CanalWay Center serves as a Visitor Center along the Towpath Trail and features numerous indoor exhibits and interpretive programming that explore the complicated relationships between people, industry and nature.

Fight the Frost Festival Running from noon - 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, this free event offers a multitude of fun, outdoor and indoor activities that the whole family will enjoy. Among the outdoor activities are Winter hikes, snowshoeing (if there is enough snow), bird hikes, weather demonstrations and roasting marshmallows over a fire.

Indoor activities include puppet shows, cornhole, making frosty crafts and new this year, carpet skating.

Guests will also be able to enjoy Sno Cones, cookies and hot chocolate.

Be sure to check out the gift shop where you can purchase items like snacks, books on the Towpath Trail, local maps ( and even fishing bait and tackle).
