Today is the international talk like a pirate day. A great way to pay tribute to this day is to experience the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Walt Disney World. This nine minute slow boat ride will allow guests to be engulfed into a pirate’s life. This ride was introduced to Walt Disney World guests on December 15, 1973 and has become even more popular in recent years with the Pirates of the Caribbean films featuring Johnny Depp.
Near the beginning of the ride is a small drop in the dark that may scare small children. The ride begins with the skeletal remains of pirates and mermaids from the past set on a deserted shore. Next guests will glide past two pirate ships firing at one another with Captain Barbossa in charge. Cannon balls fired from the ships appear to splash in the water as guests duck to avoid getting wet. The boats will also guide guests through a town burnt down by pirates that is still simmering and shooting flames of fire.
Near the end of the ride guests witness the famous pirate guard dog taunting the locked up pirates as he holds the keys to their cell in his mouth. The last scene of the ride features Captain Jack Sparrow enjoying his bounty of loot while singing the famous song, “A Pirate’s Life for You”.
The Pirate's of the Caribbean ride is a great ride for the whole family to enjoy together. There are boats that can accommodate wheelchairs for Disney’s special needs guests. The ride also features Disney’s fast pass system. Wichitans in the Magic Kingdom today need to head over to Adventureland to experience pirate life on talk like a pirate day.
