Ember Swallower is one of the newest "Magic: The Gathering" cards spoiled today Aug. 27, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert expansion set "Theros." Revealed in an article by Trick Jarrett on DailyMTG.com, Ember Swallower is a powerful rare red creature that can force each player to sacrifice three lands.
Ember Swallower - 2RR
Creature - Elemental (Rare)
5RR: Monstrosity 3. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put three +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)
When Ember Swallower becomes monstrous, each player sacrifices three lands.
Ember Swallower can be devastating in a deck filled with mana producers. Consider this: Turn one Elvish Mystic, second turn another Elvish Mystic and Satyr Hedonist, third turn Ember Swallower. You'll be able to make Ember Swallower monstrous on turn four, leaving your opponent either with one or no lands (depending on if you went first or second) while you'll have three mana resources and a huge 7/8 creature on the battlefield.
There's one glaring drawback to tailoring your deck around Ember Swallower: If you try to make it monstrous and your adversary casts Ultimate Price or Dreadbore in response you'll be out resources, especially if you sacrificed Satry Hedonist in the process.
How will you use Ember Swallower?
