Emanuel’s transport transition team promising for Chicago sustainability

Chicago mayor elect Rahm Emanuel named his transportation and infrastructure transition team that includes sustainable and public transportation advocates. The team, consisting of civic, business and community leaders, will help guide the mayoral transition.

The choices for his transition team bode well for prioritizing public and alternative transportation, key issues for making a Chicago a more sustainable and livable city. Here is a brief overview selected members with public transportation and sustainability credentials:

Transition Team Co-Chairs

  • David Mosena is currently President and CEO of the Museum of Science and Industry. He was previously the President of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and the Commissioner of the Chicago Aviation Department.
  • Steve Koch, Vice Chairman at Credit Suisse serves on the Green Ribbon Committee of the Chicago Climate Action Plan.
  • Transportation and Infrastructure Transition Team
  • Jacky Grimshaw is Center for Neighborhood Technology’s (CNT) Vice President for Policy, a board member of the CTA, and experienced in public policy advocacy, transportation research and community economic development.
  • Adolfo Hernandez, Director of Advocacy and Outreach for the Active Transportation Alliance,  an organization dedicated to promoting bicycling, walking and public transit in Chicago.
  • Randy Neufeld is the Director of the SRAM Cycling Fund and a board member and former Director of Active Transportation Alliance. He also serves in various positions for America Bikes, National Complete Streets Coalition, Chicago Bicycle Advisory Council, Chicago Pedestrian Advisory Council, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Transportation Committee, Alliance for Biking and Walking, and the National Partnership for Safe Routes to School.
  • Jack Catlin, a partner at LCM Architects is a former CTA board member, chair of CTA's Citizens Advisory Board, and member of the CTA's ADA Advisory Committee. He was also the first practicing architect to serve as chair of the U.S. Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board).
  • Howard Learner is the Executive Director and President of the Environmental Law and Policy Center, a public interest organization which works in part on advancing smart transportation initiatives such as high speed rail and electric vehicles.
