San Bernardino, CA - Two days ago, I wrote a plea for an emaciated Pit bull at the Devore Animal shelter.
I referred to her as "beautiful girl" - she was known at the shelter as A517054.
There is nothing better for me than to be able to share a happy outcome to a desperate situation.
This beautiful girl has a name today - her name is Gertie.
The woman who saved her life, Larissa, was touched (as was I) by Gertie's pitiful photo. She shares the following about how that photo touched her:
I fell hard for her. A picture says a 1000 words. I could see she was leaning into the Devore handler who might lead her to her end. I knew she was goodness through and through. I also felt that wave of nausea I get when I can see the innocent lamb is held in the clutches of a wolf unaware of her fate and still trusting. I feel a despair for humanity.
Gertie will be brought back to a healthy weight and as soon as she is strong enough, she will make a long journey north, to a home waiting for her in the Pacific Northwest.
From her rescuer: I can promise you from the bottom of my heart, that she will be loved forever.
Have a beautiful life sweet Gertie!
