Update November 29, 2010-This dog is safe! She has been pulled and is on her way to the vet clinic. She is in the care of Daisy's Place. Thanks to everyone that stepped up to help rescue her!
Summerville, SC - Urgent help is needed for a senior Chocolate Lab that is suffering in Summerville, SC. The dog, a 12 yr-old Chocolate lab, is living outside - she is frighteningly thin and obviously suffering.
According to neighbors, the dog is provided very little food and seldom has access to water. Though they have tried to contact animal control for assistance, nothing has been done.
Perhaps if the local animal control and sheriff's office starts to hear from concerned individuals from across the nation, they will open their eyes to this obvious problem and make arrangements to remove this suffering dog from her torment.
One look at the photo of this senior dog's emaciated body and dull coat is evidence enough to know that she is suffering and in poor health.
The following is the contact information for the Dorchester County Animal Control: 500 N Main St, Summerville, SC 29483, phone number (843) 832-0015.
Email address: mbehr@dorchestercounty.net
The following is the information for the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office:212 Deming Way Ste 9, Summerville, SC 29483, Phone number (843) 832-0259
The dog is living at this location: 1037 Whitlow Blvd. Summerville , SC 29483
Please take a moment to phone the animal control agency and the sheriff's department. Please let these agencies know that no living creature deserves to suffer like this and that the government agencies owe it to the residents of this area to address the issue.
This dog is suffering - she has no capability of helping herself. Please take a moment to reach out and give her the help that she needs.

I called animal control- they are closed today- left the info on the recorder. Called the SPCA- they dont do cruelty cases. Called the sheriff's dept. They said they will send someone out when they get a chance. Not much concern there but maybe someone will have a heart and help this poor dog.
Please take the time to email them. m behr at dorchester county dot net, no spaces. Her name is Myra Behr.
The sheriff's department will go "when they get a chance" - WTH? Most Sheriff's Departments that I know about aren't that busy. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I love the senior Labs. This poor girl needs help and she needs it NOW.
Dear Friends, The two ladies that run Daisy's Rescue are absolutely wonderful and this girl is safe and sound. She IS underweight and heartworm positive..PLEASE if you can help towards her heartworm treatment, here is info:
Thanks for caring
that this girl is SAFE and SOUND thanks to my good friends, Mary Zapata and Melissa Gray who have Daisy's Place. A rescue for senior labs...they initiated the email and I work with the SPCA in Summerville. Melissa called Animal control this am and was told that she would be brought in to shelter at 11 am. Mary picked her up, took her to her WONDERFUL boarding facility that she owns in mt P, she got a bath, a nice meal and was taken to their Vet. Mary shared that she is a sweetheart.....rode in the front seat of Mary's car, was relaxed and just a great girl...
Vet estimates that she is ~ 4 years old, she is very much underweight and she is heartworm positive.
PLEASE if you can DONATE to help Daisy's Place pay for her treatment.

We are an all volunteer non-profit organization and all of our dogs are in private foster homes. If you're interested in adopting one of our lovable Daisy Dogs - or Rosebuds - please fill out an adoption application on on our website. (read less)

I just called animal control and got a cheesy recording. Called the sheriff's office and dispatch said they are "not affiliated with animal control". Looks like Monday is the first day we can do any good. This is hideous! Poor dog!

The sheriff is involved with crime in their jurisdiction. Sadly most don't know what their job description is and the rest simply don't care.

Ashley,
I have talked with Animal Control Officer Droze. After trying to work
with the owner and have him take the dog to the vet, the owner admitted that he cannot afford to take the dog to the vet. The owner signed over the dog to Animal Control today. Officer Droze deposited the dog at the F. R. W. SPCA.
Thanks,
Myra"
I am frickin' livid about this....I don't like to hear of any animal being abused but I'm especially partial to Labs. I will be calling them in the morning and I'm going to send an email.
I'm partial to labs too. I had a black lab that lived to be 14. She was my baby and when she was ill I nursed her back to good health! I can't imagine treating a dog this way. We now have a chocolate lab that just turned 4 last tuesday and she's our baby now! I already sent an email and will call them tomorrow. It's so sad that not even a neighbor or a family friend will not help this poor dog. I hope we get updates of good news.
Summerville is about 45 minutes away from where I live. Any chance we could talk to the owner and get them to surrender the dog voluntarily? Just an idea.
The e-mail address is incorrect. I have sent it two times and it comes back as undeliverable. Please call them and keep on this. 8438320015
Joan, my email is going through and I haven't heard others having issue with it.
What a sad story. I sent an email and hope it, along with many other communications, ensures this poor dog gets help.
Isn't some 'citizen' of Dorchester County willing to go around and pick up the poor dog and feed her/him until they can get some other help?????

I just called the sheriff's office
(Sunday, November 28 at 3:00 pm WST) and an officer has already been out to the residence, talked to the neighbors and animal control will be at the dogs location Monday when the people get home from work. In the meantime, the neighbors are feeding and watering the dog so he is OK for now.
Oh, thank you! That is good news! I hope we get even better updates in the near future.
Great! Thanks for the update!
When the people get home from work?
Oh for god's sake, someone should just take the dog. South Carolina doesn't care about the welfare of animals let alone a 12 year old dog.
LOOK AT THE OWNERS. Their address and pictures should be spread across the internet showing that Satan walks the earth!
I hope they trully follow through and I hope someone starves the owners to near death. I sent an email
I just called both numbers and sent out an e-mail. The Sheriff's Dept. told me that they are taking care of this situation? I sure hope so! I left a message on Animal Control's recorder. Thanks Penny for all the GOOD you do!
I live in this town. I have first hand knowledge that Animal Control will probably kill this dog on sight unless someone can rescue him first! PLEASE...call Dorchester County as soon as they open. Keep in mind that SC is on EASTERN time....so if it is 8am on the Pacific Coast it is already 11 am here!
Hi Susy, is there anyway you could help find a rescue for this poor baby? I live in Chester county and i know what you are talking about with putting dogs down like this instead of getting it some help, i have 7 dogs and 4 cats now or i would take him. These people are sick to let a dog get that bad and it takes a while for one to look that bad, PRAYING FOR THIS BABY!!!!!!!!!
Any chance of getting the owner to surrender the dog voluntarily and then finding a foster or no-kill shelter?
I live in Beaufort County and have contacted a rescue here by email and am spreading the word to hopefully get this dog pulled. I agree that the shelter will kill this dog due to age and health condition. Will continue to spread the word.
Ele sente dor, fome, sede e esta privado de amor. Ajudem-no!!!!!!!!Por favor...
Email sent. Disgraceful :( Hope the employees of this shelter enjoyed a weekend of good food and decent lodgings, because this dog certainly didn't. Shame!!!
I really can,t understand why nothing has been done for this poor dog....they depend on their owners for love and care...it makes me angry....I really pray that this dog can be removed and some good soul will give the care and love needed for the rest of her life...If I were the neighbour, I would have the dog in my home ...
PLLLLLLEEEEAAAAASSSSSE
HEEEEELLLLLP THIS SWEEEEET GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
W.T.F. IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!!?!?!?
PLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAASSSSE HEEEEEELLLLLP THIS
SWEEEEET DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT WORTHY OF HAVING A PET/ANIMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Someone needs to go knock on the door and offer these people a few $$ and get that dog signed over. People like that make me sick. And the police dept is corrupt for sure. How can anyone with a heart in their body allow this to happen. I will sure be making my e-mail and phone calls.
I would be willing to knock on the door and I am local; able 45 minutes or so away. At this time, I would need transportation though. If anyone could help and go with me, please email me cinisea2@gmail.com. Thanks. We need to get this dog help now. Animal control will kill her due to her health and age.
Offer them money for abusing a dog? Are you rewarding them? They will go out & get another & do it again, Someone needs to take it..PERIOD!!
I just sent the following message via the posted e mail address: Please step in and take care of this poor starving dog in Summerville. Shame on anyone who would treat or ignore removing and helping a voiceless animal. This problem is now posted on Facebook for the world to see. I hope that we will have good news that those who should take care of this have done their job. First getting the dog to a SAFE place and then imposing whatever laws there are on the owner.
Concerned and caring in Texas

This is the response I rec'd from the newspaper person:
"Just a few weeks ago the Sheriff arrested the owner of dogs that were being starved similar to this dog -- they were in court last week. It seems out of character that the Sheriff's office would suddenly not be aggressive on this particular one. I'll check on it --
