Elvis Presley fans have flooded the gates of Graceland to honor the memory of the King on the 36th anniversary of his death. The fans begin annual candlelight vigil on Thursday, August 15 in Memphis, Tenn., according to Yahoo News reports on Friday, August 16.
Fans travel from around the world every year to pay their respects to Elvis Presley who died on August 16, 1977. Thousands carry lit candles as they walk silently through the Mediation Garden at Elvis' Graceland home.
The beautiful gardens are located in the family burial plot where Elvis' grave, along with those of his mother, father and grandmother are all located.
Elvis' grave is covered in wreaths, flowers and photos of Elvis, as fans with candles look on, bow and cry for the fallen entertainer.
This is an annual week long celebration of Elvis Presley's life and career that die-hard Presley fans look forward to each year at this time.
It has been estimated that this year over 35,000 fans would attend the vigil, down from last year's 75,000 who made the trip Elvis' ex-wife Priscilla and daughter Lisa Marie spoke at last year's anniversary celebration, which is the first time the mother and daughter have appeared together during the Graceland candlelight vigils began.
The Graceland vigil began in 1978 on August 16,one year after Elvis Presley died from a heart attack, since then fans keep returning to carry out honoring the memory of Elvis Presley.
The event also is an international affair, hosting fans from Brazil, Chile, Japan and other foreign countries.
