Elvis Presley fans worldwide are already planning their travel plans for the 35th Anniversary and Elvis Week 2012 in Memphis, August 10-18th.
“I am going to Graceland in August, three of us girls coming all the way from New Zealand,” said Carron Burn, from Napier, New Zealand. “We are so looking forward to it and only hope that one day the (concert) tour will come down under so we can all get to see it again.”
The cast for the Elvis 35th Anniversary Concert at the FedExForum was announced this week, and features Joe Guercio, the conductor Elvis used on his 1970’s concert tours.
Elvis’ original 1970’s band members, James Burton, Ronnie Tutt, and Glen Hardin, will be playing along as Elvis “will perform live” projected on a large state-of-the-art video screens.
DJ Fontana, drummer for Elvis in the 1950s and 60s, will also be there.
Additional singers scheduled, who performed with Elvis, include Estelle Brown, Portia Griffin and Kelly of Jones of The Sweet Inspirations.
Bill Baize, Ed Hill, Larry Strickland and Donnie Sumner, former members of JD Sumner and The Stamps Quartet will attend, as well as Joe Moscheo, Terry Blackwood, Armond Morales and Jim Murray of The Imperials.
Tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000, at any Ticketmaster outlet or at the FedExForum box office.
Dozens of events will be held during the celebration including the 30th Annual Elvis Presley 5K Run Benefiting United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South, a downtown Memphis block party featuring live bands, classic cars, Budweiser Clydesdales and a Memphis Redbirds-Tacoma Rainiers baseball game.
Besides the Ultimate Elvis Tribute competitions, movie showings, and various music events, some days will hold a “Conversations on Elvis,” each with a different theme.
For instance, on Sunday, August 12th at 1 pm at the Graceland Pavilion, a movie theme will allow audience members to ask questions from Elvis co-stars Mary Ann Mobley: "Harum Scarum" and "Girl Happy"; Barbara Eden, of “I Dream of Genie” TV fame: "Flaming Star"; and Jan Shepard: "King Creole" and "Paradise, Hawaiian Style."
