Isn't it funny how winning teams tend to do smart things? As the Sox start to pick up momentum in the AL East, they are also making sound decisions—like putting Jacoby Ellsbury back in center field for good. The notion of shifting the speedster to the unnatural left field spot (just to accommodate veteran Mike Cameron) was silly from the outset.
The de facto assignment of Jason Varitek as Dice-K's personal catcher is also wise. Sure, sure, they will deny it up and down, but the fact remains that Matsuzaka has hurled two gems with the Captain behind the dish. 'Nuff Ced.

Not to mention the presumably permanent return of David Ortiz to the lineup. He hadn't disappeared completely, of course, although there were some hints that it might happen when Tito started pinch-hitting for him. I heard the collective gasp of that move all the way down here in North Carolina. It's hard to imagine him, now apparently catching up with those fastballs, regressing to the point where he won't be catching up with them later in the season. More likely to be catching up with more of them. It's not just the actual bat that comes into play either. It's a palpable sense that as goes Ortiz, so go the Sox. When Papi's feeling good, the whole team seems to be on their game. We'll catch those damn Yankees yet.
