To say that the Austin Area Art Center was beaming with pride, sense of accomplishment and people would not have been an overstatement. The open house for the Ellis Middle School Art Show took place Sunday, February 5, and it was a packed crowd with 153 in attendance.
The students and parents had been coming out all week to view this show. Monday night there were 50 in attendance. Tuesday night there were 26. Thursday night there were 25 and then Sunday they came back to find out who won first, second, and third place in each grade. The judges for this show were Bonnie Lee, Gallery Coordinator for the Austin Area Art Center, Jim Wegner, former Riverland Art Instructor, and long time artist Yvonne Jondal.
The students, who did not have any work at the beginning of January, put forth volumes of effort to produce this much art in time for this show and the art show going on at Ellis! Kudos to the students and their art teacher, Linsey Olesiak, for the great work that they did. Olesiak came back from northern Minnesota where she was visiting family just to see the show and be with some of her students again. “I would not have missed this show. You guys did a great job of hanging the show to feature the students work. Thank you for all you did on behalf of the students.”
The Art Center would like to thank the business sponsors that gave prizes to give away to the award winners and Ezekiel for playing the piano for the open house.
