Ellie Smith won her second statewide pageant on Sunday. Her crowning as Miss Nevada entitles her to represent her state at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, scheduled for September.

She previously represented Arizona at Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant after being crowned Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen 2012-13. The teen pageant is the younger-sister competition to the Miss America Pageant, and is for girls ages 13-17.

This year, her sister Amy Smith will travel to Orlando, Florida in late July for the national teen pageant. She was crowned Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen on Sunday for the current year.

The event was held at the Las Vegas Academy Theater.

If Ellie is crowned Miss America, she will become the third Arizona contestant to win the national title. Previous Miss America titleholders include Miss Arizona 1964 Vonda Kay Van Dyke and Miss Arizona 1949 Jacque Mercer.

If Amy is crowned Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, she will become the first Arizonan to win the national title. The record for an Arizona contestant is held by Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen 2005 Adrienne Nurss, who finished in the Top 10 in the national finals.

Ellie is a singer and model who has performed at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
