Ellie Goulding performed two songs for BBC’s Radio 1 Live Lounge last week. In the Live Lounge artists typically perform their current single with a new arrangement and a cover of a recent pop song.
Goulding performed her catchy hit “Burn”, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and three talented backup singers. Goulding expertly delivers her signature gravelly voice on the live recording.
The video of the performance of “Burn” is here.
The cover Goulding chose to perform was uber-hit “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake. Unfortunately, this cover does not match her usually outstanding covers, such as “Your Song” or “Only Girl In the World”. It simply mimics Timberlake’s original and does not attempt to add a new twist to the record. Perhaps Goulding should have put her spin on a more upbeat song, like Miley Cyrus’s “We Can’t Stop” or Bruno Mars’s “Locked Out of Heaven”.
Watch her cover of “Mirrors” here.
Ellie Goulding’s album Halcyon Days is available now.
