Ellen rewards a waitress with $10,000 after learning that the waitress paid a bill for two soldiers. On Oct. 20, WTVY reported the Ellen DeGeneres surprised New Hampshire waitress Sarah Hoidahl when she found out about Hoidahl's good deed. You see, Hoidahl picked up the tab for two National Guard soldiers who were affected by the government shutdown last week.
"DeGeneres caught wind of Hoidahl's act of kindness when the New Hampshire National Guard posted a picture on its Facebook page. The story spread quickly online, producers saw it and invited Hoidahl to Hollywood," WTVY reports.
So Ellen first rewards the waitress by giving her $27.75 -- the amount of money that Hoidahl paid for the soldiers' bill. While Hoidahl was excited and just thrilled to be on "Ellen," there was something even bigger on the way. Ellen presented Hoidahl with a $10,000 check and Hoidahl was simply stunned.
Hoidahl couldn't hide her emotions. She put her face in her hands and couldn't stop thanking Ellen. Obviously she didn't pay the tab for the soldiers because she thought anything like this would happen. She did it without any expectation... and that makes her a great person.
