A pizza delivery guy for Big Mama and Papa’s pizza in Los Angeles, California had his most important delivery ever Sunday night when he was called to the Dolby Theater to deliver three pizzas to Ellen DeGeneres, AKA host of the 86th annual Academy Awards. It was perhaps the most ridiculous, yet wonderful moment of the evening. Seeing Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts chow down on pizza was priceless. While we know the whole thing was planned, it was still pretty epic marketing for Big Mama’s and Papa’s, as well as pure good old- fashioned comedy. Ellen brought back the spark to a usually dull Academy Awards.
DeGeneres has a way of reminding us that celebrities are just like all of us- except with a lot of money and power. This could be seen with her star-studded selfie that literally shut down Twitter. The popular social networking site was unreachable for about ten minutes during the Oscars. Ellen later related that “we broke Twitter,” saying that her people received an E-mail from Twitter headquarters saying that the Oscars shut the site down for a few moments. Her picture with A-listers in the front rows of the theater annihilated any past Twitter records, reaching close to two million re-tweets in minutes. DeGeneres was funny, charming, and ridiculous enough to captivate viewers. Overall, she gets an A.
Alas, awards season has come to a close. We are now in the season of remakes and blockbuster superhero films. Never fear! Next year’s Oscar contenders are in the final stages of post-production and getting ready for your critical viewing pleasure. What did you think of the 2014 Oscars?
