Talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres took to Twitter Wednesday to wish her famous cousin a "Happy Birthday." "A very happy birthday to my dear cousin, Kate Middleton. I hope everything's going well with baby Ellen!" the 54-year-old tweeted to her nearly 16 million followers.

While Ellen was clearly joking about the royal baby being named in her honor, her relation to the Duchess of Cambridge is actually no joke. In February 2011, it was revealed DeGeneres and Kate Middleton share a gene pool. A letter to the tv personality from the New England Genealogical Society, revealed the two celebrities are 15th cousins and are related through a man named Sir Thomas Fairfax and his wife, Agnes Gascoigne. “You are distant cousins … but cousins still the same,” the letter reportedly stated according to NewsFeed.
Kate Middleton turned 31 on Wednesday, Jan. 9. St. James' Palace confirmed the Duchess celebrated her birthday privately. There are conflicting reports about whether she was in Wales, at the home where she and Prince William live, or if she spent her birthday at her parent's home in Bucklebury.
