Ellen DeGeneres is coming back to primetime! Ellen has been given the green light by NBC to produce a show entitled, "One Big Happy," in which a lesbian woman and a straight man decide to have a baby together. As you can imagine this scenario could cause some complications for the friends, with lots of laughs in- store. No air date has been set for the show as of yet. DeGeneres will work on the show with Liz Feldman, the producer of Two Broke Girls; formerly a writer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The strange thing is that many sources, like Entertainment Wise, are calling the project a "gay interest" show. DeGeneres fought tooth and nail with networks to get her talk show, now in its' eleventh season, to even air. Networks didn't believe that stay at home moms would want to watch a lesbian woman interview celebrities. Fast forward a few years, and you have one of the most successful talk shows on television. Maybe a sitcom featuring a gay main character is just 2014. Has anyone ever heard of Will & Grace? Ellen formerly starred in her own sitcom, The Ellen Show which aired from 1994-1998. Ellen's character was the first in television history to come out as gay. Ellen also came out publicly in 1997 on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Anyone who believes that television shows featuring gay characters are only for the gay community, really aren't living in the present time, where we are all human beings coexisting, working for equality, and hopefully bringing happiness to the world.
