Comedian and former writer for The Ellen Degeneres Show Greg Fitzsimmons says that working for America's favorite lesbian is harder than fans might think.
"It was so heinous. It was so toxic," said Greg Fitzsimmons of The Ellen Degeneres Show working environment.
Fitzsimmons made the revelation during a guest appearance on Thursday's Howard Stern Show broadcast. Fitzsimmons told Stern that he began taking medication for depression a few months after he began work for Ellen Degeneres and eventually got himself fired from The Ellen Degeneres Show staff by ditching production meetings and openly insulting other staff members because he was so miserable.
Fitzsimmons, who speaks openly about his history of depression, says that he frequently receives mail from fans asking him for advice on how to cope with their own depressive symptoms. Fitzsimmons recommended that anyone experiencing symptoms of depression should seek professional help through medication and/or therapy without shame.
Greg Fitzsimmons visited the Howard Stern Show today as an unofficial stand-in for co-host Artie Lange who is currently seeking treatment for his own depression and substance abuse issues after a violent suicide attempt in early January.
