Ellen DeGeneres reaches goal to provide 1 million meals for shelter dogs

Eelen DeGeneres has teamed up with Halo Pet Food's "Purely for Pets" and accomplished their goal to provide 1 million meals for dogs without homes.

People Magazine reports that Steve Marton, CEO for Halo said, "We are thrilled with the success of the campaign and the incredible number of supporters who helped us to achieve this goal.  It's our mission to make a real difference for pets."

DeGeneres told media, "At Halo we want to promote healthy living for pets and good food is a big part of that. So, we agreed to donate 1 million meals of "Halo" to shelter pets."

Earlier this year, the Emmy winning TV show host said, "I mean, imagine, an animal in a shelter, in a cage, lonely - a good meal is kinda all they have to look forward to, until you adopt them!"

The TV personality has been working to raise awareness about pet adoption as part of a campaign that kicked off on April 30, 2010, coinciding with the U.S. Postal Service's new "Animal Rescue: Adopt A Shelter Pet" social awareness stamps.

Did you know?  In addition to working with The Humane Society, the ASPCA, Pets for Patriots, and the National Canine Cancer Foundation, Helen DeGeneres is also a spokesman for Farm Sanctuary's  "Adopt -A-Turkey" program, which provides sanctuary and helps turkeys find good homes.
