Ellen DeGeneres set Twitter on fire with a 2014 Oscars’ selfie, which showed Ellen with a group of her friends. These friends all had some very famous faces. The picture crashed Twitter, but that crash came with a silver lining for Ellen. She was happy to say, they made Twitter history as the “most shared photo ever on Twitter,” according to the Times of India on March 3.
The selfie, which is seen above, includes Ellen, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacy, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Lupita Nyong. It was Cooper who snapped Ellen’s crowded selfie, so he can say the click of his finger made history with his “mobile device.”
Streep gushed about never tweeting before, but when you hang around with Ellen, you know there’s a chance of doing something for the first time! She goes to great lengths to entertain the masses. Ellen shared how she learned that they made Twitter history:
“We got an email from Twitter and we crashed and broke Twitter. We have made history.”
Access to Twitter was disrupted for a short period as over two million people shared or retweeted the Ellen and friends picture during the two hours or the 86the annual Academy Awards. Ellen couldn’t have picked a better time to have a selfie break a record, this seems to be “the year of the selfie” so far.
