NeNe Leakes, of “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” had her name captioned onto a picture of Danai Gurira, of the zombie show “Walking Dead.” Would anyone want to be mistaken for a zombie? That’s not quite what happened. Actually, both actresses are quite beautiful, but they look nothing alike, and no one wants the wrong picture plastered above her name. The fashion magazine put the mistake out in a tweet after NeNe had walked the Elle red carpet at a Women in Television dinner attended by both women, reports the Inquisitr on Friday, Jan. 25. The Elle magazine mistake has stirred up a huge controversy, worthy of both drama shows.
NeNe Leakes and Danai Gurira were both wearing dark dresses, but NeNe wore off-the-shoulder black with her blonde hair, while Danai wore a gray sleeveless top with her super-short black hair. They look nothing alike, except for the one major thing they have in common – both actresses are black. Was the Elle magazine mistake because editors can’t tell one black actress from another?
NeNe posted a tweet to alert the magazine to the problem. @ “The Elle Women in Television event! So funny how these event work! I’m glad I know who I Am.”
Large numbers of fans tweeted their disgust and displeasure. They were quick to see racial overtones in the magazine staff’s inability to tell the two women apart. Certainly it was unintentional, but the editors should know better. And it’s even more certain they will take more care in the future.
