Elizabeth Vargas, the ABC News anchor, and her singer songwriting husband Marc Cohn are headed for a divorce. According to Fox News on Friday, the 51-year-old television news star and her 55-year-old Grammy-award winning husband are ending their marriage after 12 years. They separated last year.
It has reportedly been a tough year for Vargas. She has just announced recently that she was returning to rehab to deal with an alcohol addiction. She admits that her struggle with alcoholism has been difficult for her and her family as well. The couple had two sons who are staying with Cohn in New York while Vargas continues to seek treatment, according to People Magazine.
Publicly, neither Vargas nor Cohn is talking about the separation and impending divorce. Cohn, however, has said that he offers his support to his estranged wife. In a written statement, Cohn wrote that on behalf of Vargas’ family, they are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well.
Vargas released a statement earlier this week. Her statement said that she is returning to rehab for her alcoholism concern. She asserted that she let herself down, as well as her co-workers and – most importantly – her family. She said that she is ashamed and sorry about the situation.
Earlier this year, in March, Cohn reportedly cheated in their relationship. It was reported that Cohn cheated while Vargas was in rehab the first time which was in November of last year. Cohn’s response to the report was that such reports of his cheating on Vargas were nothing but vicious rumors. Cohn recorded a very successful commercially-successful song titled “Walking in Memphis.” The song was a huge hit and a Grammy Award winning song in 1992.
