For the first time, Elizabeth Smart took the stand and gave testimony this morning to a Salt Lake City courtroom in Brian David Mitchell’s competency hearing. Smart disappeared in 2002 and was found about nine months later. Warning: the testimony is sexually graphic.
Elizabeth Smart said that there was a time when he gave her too much to drink and she vomited all over herself and made her lie down in her own vomit for the entire night. She said that he manipulated her and she watched him manipulate others. Once he pretended to be an investigator from the church and people invited them into their home, he would tell them his goal was to find a second wife. AP Photo.
Smart said that if someone agreed with him he acted normally, but if they didn’t agree with him that he would walk away from them or start singing.
When winter approached, Mitchell made the decision that they would go to San Diego, saying that he had to find wife number two. She said that he was arrested when they were in San Diego, for breaking into a church, he passed out inside the church because he took some drugs that he stole from someone. The police found him sleeping in the church. He told Elizabeth that he was booked into jail. He told her that he was wearing a robe and when they were booking him in, they could see everything, “his privates” and they liked everything they saw. He was in jail for 6 or 7 days before he came back to camp. Smart stayed at the camp with Wanda during this time.
Smart said that he wasn’t confused about things, she thought he was very smart, and he knew a lot of things. She said that he was never bewildered or out of control, but that he sang a lot.

This doesn't sound like rape-rape. Let the guy go as many are suggesting for Polanski! This is an acceptable thing now and constitutes no crime according to MANY famous and influential people !
How can you be so heartless gjdagos? Its obvious that this poor child was abused. I am thankful that she is alive. Maybe you shold be held captive for 9 months and see how it goes for you and lets see if this is "rape rape" for you. You obviously don't any kids. I pray for this family and i hope this man who is a sick pervert gets his in jail. He is not crazy, he is sick and so is his so called wife.

Obviously you have never been raped. This is not acceptable maybe in some backwards country you think you live in, it is against the law to rape. It is even against tle law in all 50 states to rape your wife. You mean according to those influential people who got off because of name alone, can think of a basketball player, and most influential people fight against rape. Your definetly not in the USA - we here fight hard to protect the women and children of this country, unfortunately their are sickos out there like you who don't get what the majority of us get.

Poor Elizabeth Smart—kidnapped 9 months by a “religious” man (Mitchell) with a sex drive for 14 yr old girls. Very poor Elizabeth Smart raised in a church for 21 yrs which was founded by a “religious” man (Joseph Smith) with a sex drive for 14 yr old girls and other men’s wives.
In November Elizabeth will become a missionary for the Mormons, she will teach the people of Paris France to sing the same songs that Mitchell sings in court. She will teach the French to honor and revere a man (Joseph Smith) who also used religious emotion as a tool to get 14 yr-old girls in bed. Elizabeth’s tale is a sad one indeed.
I sympathize with all the trauma that Elizabeth has gone through, yet much of that trauma is still unrecognized by herself.
I say we execute these people - What takes us in our society to where this is obviously acceptable behavior! I say we execute Phillip Garrido and his wife. This case is 6 years old and we are still running this nut in and out or court. In and out of physic offices to attempt to understand what makes these nuts use god and the church to have sex with 14 year old girls. If you think about it its a lot like Islam!
